Embracing Sustainability, go green! 💚

Starting July 1st 2023 we will apply a charge to all single use plastic items.

At Starbucks, we have always been passionate about creating a positive impact on the world around us. That's why we are excited to announce our commitment to sustainability and the implementation of new changes in line with the government's efforts to reduce plastic waste.

Starting from July 1st 2023, we will be introducing a tax for single use items containing plastic.

This applies to:

  • Single use cups containing plastic: 10 cents*
  • Single use grab & go food packaging containing a certain type of plastic: 5 cents**

Part of these charges will be donated to the following external charities :

We believe that by embracing change and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, we can create a brighter future for our planet. These charges serve as a gentle reminder of the impact of single-use items and inspire all of us to adopt more sustainable practices. Here's why these changes are important:

  • Waste Reduction

The goal is to minimize waste and promote a circular economy. By charging for single use cups and packaging, we aim to contribute to the motivation of our customers to bring their reusable cups or containers, significantly reducing the amount of waste generated. Of course, we do not apply charges without an alternative. Therefor, we are rewarding our customers that place their orders with a reusable cup (from any brand) with a €0,30 discount as no single use plastic cups will be used. Find our full range of reusable cups in stores.

  • Protecting the Environment

Disposable single use cups and food packaging contribute to the growing problem of plastic pollution. We encourage everyone to consider the environmental consequences and seek alternatives to reduce waste.

  • Conserving Resources

Manufacturing single use cups and packaging consumes valuable resources, including water and energy. By reducing the demand for single-use items, we contribute to the conservation of these precious resources for future generations.

  • Partnering for Change

As part of a global community, we understand that our actions can make a significant difference. By complying with the government's regulations and embracing these changes, we are working together towards a greener and more sustainable future.

We acknowledge that adjusting to these changes may take time, but we believe that small steps can lead to great achievements. We invite you to join us on this journey by making sustainable choices and being part of the solution.

Thank you for your continued support in our commitment to sustainability. Together, let's create a world where both coffee and the environment thrive.

*This applies to our all-plastic disposable cups for cold drinks and disposable paper cups for hot drinks, due to a thin layer of plastic.
** Some of our highway stores will charge 10 cents for the food packaging.
